World AIDS day.

Today, for those who may still be unaware, is World AIDS Day. 


Having been reminded of the small print at the top left of the "1st December" segment of my diary, I immediately thought of this picture:

Appropriate, is it not? This image was taken last year on the motorway (highway to those out of the UK). It was along with multiple other slow shutter speed shots but of all, only this came out with particular significance - the AIDS awareness symbol.

Night Photography Part 2

The Story:

The following were taken on the Motorway on the way to Manchester late Thursday night. NO I was NOT driving!

What happened was that there was about 20 miles worth of road works being carried out by some ghosts. I say ghosts because I saw no one working but there were stretches of orange cones, yellow reflectors and some powerful spotlights. (I'm not calling the workers lazy at all by the way, just saying they may have been on their lunch break...or tea break...at 11pm...until 1am...)

What I did and How I did it:

I first of all dropped my shutter speed to 16" and Aperture to F11 in order to have a nice contrast and not a white, blurry, burst-of-light type of image. Also, I set the ISO to 100 to have a nice soft image in order to avoid noise or grain. (Don't they look so cool?)

Having the shutter speed that low helped in not compromising the Exposure of the picture.

On the above picture, as some may easily guess. I just shut the shutter, held the camera in place for just a second or two (I forgot which of the two it was) and did a scribbly motion with the camera, hence the scribbly look.

Night-Time Photography

I find night-time photography fun and very enjoyable. However, with the sort of weather we have here in England, it's very tempting to photograph from the comfort of your centrally-heated lounge or your bodily-heated duvet.

I've recently fallen for the streaky-lights/speed/traffic/motio

n type of images and put on my brave overcoat and went to battle the winds and drizzles of the Midlands.

I'm still working on a brill "night-photography" collection and for this I've really gotta face this weather and show it who's boss....my padded jacket and leather gloves :-D.
