Well, recently (yesterday) I had the privilege to attend, meet, greet and photograph a private concert by these two greats of Spanish music in Birmingham. Singer Caco Senante along with pianist and co-singer and pianist Vicente Borland performed 14 pieces in the 2 hour concert titled "Lo Mejor de los Mejores" (The best of the best).
Caco, meaning "thief" in English, described himself as a thief of spanish music. His talent and what he does is perform the best of Latin songs from all over the Latin world from legends such as Violeta Parra, Ruben Blades and Joaquin Sabina. He performs these artists' best and pieces, hence the title of his show "The best of the best".
Vicente, on the other hand, bears a more honest name, one that also implies his apparent graceful nature and "mellow" manner and style of play. According to my research (Google) I found that Vicente has done the voice-over for "Sebastián The Crab" in the Spanish translation of the movie "The little Mermaid 2". Random information about a singer I just met or what!? (rhetorical!)
Anyway, onto photography. What I decided to do was to capture the majority of the show in black and white. The lighting in the Hall was really low-key and I also didn't want to use flash at all because it would have ruined the mood/ambience and also outdone the spotlight effect that was going on. Plus, there was a nice dark background and the subject really features better and on other occasions, they used a backdrop with slides of pictures of the authors and original singers of some of the songs and that really added a little something to the look of the stage and interesting to capture alltogether.
I'll post a couple of the images in a part 2. Right now, it's bed time.
