Canon: 7D vs 5D II (vs 50D)

Anyone else bamboozled by this new trick by Canon?

I mean, how do you react when you're just completing the purchase of the greatest camera you've ever owned and smash the piggy bank to afford this beauty and as you checkout of the store you see on the window "New 7D, better and cheaper than what you've just bought!"

Honestly, after spending £/$2600 to realise I could have saved £/$1000, I'd be close to suicidal. Okay, that's an over-reaction, but seriously, I'd be quite bummed!

I mean, the 7D is surpasses the 5D Mark II on so many grounds but it still falls cheaper. The 50D is clearly shorthanded in comparison to the 7D and the 5D II but somehow costs close to the price of the 7D. "Hmmm" indeed!
Note however, the 5D II is one heck of a machine, shoot with that thing and you'd wish Canon would stop making cameras because that one is THE one!

Okay, let's say the 5D II has about 21mp CMOS and the 7D has about 18mp APS-C sensor BUT the latter also has a 19 point cross-type AutoFocus system while the 5D II has a sad 9 point cross-type. Boohoo right?
The brains at canon do indeed have magnesium for lunch, as they somehow managed to kit the 7D with a huge 8fps capability compared to a 3.9fps for the 5DII and a 6.3fps to the 50D (which is pretty huge in itself).
Although bigger is better and that the 5DII has the most megapixels and the bigger Full-Frame Sensor (5616 x 3744) as opposed to the 7D's APS-S sensor (5184 x 3456), is the bigger gap in your wallet worth the bigger Full-Frame Sensor and 21MP?
And is the smaller APS-C sensor and less MPs worth the £/US$1000 saving?
Tough huh!?

In short, the 7D beats both 5DII and 50D in the following areas: Processor, Metering, Auto-Focus, Continuous shooting, viewfinder dimensions, Exposure compensation and of course, value for money. It looses only to the 5DII in the following: Sensor (which should really not be underestimated), ISO and erm...hmmmm...what else...? Ah yes, weight. the 5DII weighs less.
Don't be mislead, I'm a fan of both, and once my wallet enables me, I'll be an owner of both.....
...hopefully before the 5DIII and 7DII lol.

I love canon, and honestly, if it were a lady, I'd try my luck at marrying her (no chance, I know), BUT, this time she's really hurt a few of her admirers. Especially those who'd bought the Canon EOS 5DII days before the 7D's release as they must feel betrayed and almost tricked. Yet, Canon's got such charisma that her charm overshadows her tricky ways *sigh*.

Below's a video of the damage that the news of Canon's release of the Canon EOS 7D did to some 5DII fans. Funny!
